QR Code for Facebook Page: Make One That Works From Any Camera

Facebook has a QR code feature. It only works inside the Facebook app. Here's how to make one that works everywhere.

Facebook has a native QR code you can find inside the app. The problem is identical to Instagram's: it only works when scanned from within the Facebook app itself. Point a standard iPhone or Android camera at it and nothing happens. That makes it worthless for anything printed — signage, packaging, business cards, flyers.

Here's how to make a Facebook QR code that works from any camera, on any phone, whether or not the person has the app installed.

Get your Facebook page URL

Your Facebook page URL is facebook.com/yourpagename. If your page has a custom username (you set this in Page Settings → Username), the URL is clean and short. If you haven't set one, your URL contains a long numeric ID — fix that first, then make your QR.

To find your current URL: go to your Facebook page, copy the address from the browser bar, and remove any trailing parameters (?ref=... or anything after a ?). The clean URL is what you encode.

When scanned:

  • People with Facebook installed get taken directly to your page in the app.
  • People without it see your public page in the browser and can choose to follow or message you.

Why make your own instead of using Facebook's

Beyond the app-only limitation, there are practical reasons to create your own:

  • Print quality. Custom generators export SVG and high-resolution PNG. Facebook's export is a low-res raster image — it goes blurry at anything larger than a business card.
  • Branding. Add your logo to the center, match your brand colors. A QR code in your brand palette looks intentional; Facebook's default looks like a placeholder.
  • Reliability. Platform QR features change or disappear. A static QR code you own will keep working regardless of what Facebook changes in their app.

Where to use it

Shop windows and door signage

A “Follow us on Facebook” sticker or printed card near your entrance captures foot traffic at the moment they're most engaged — standing in front of your business. Keep the label simple. “Deals and updates” is more compelling than “Like our page.”

Receipts and packaging

Post-purchase is a high-trust moment. A small QR on a receipt or inside packaging insert asking customers to follow for updates, early access, or exclusive discounts converts well because the customer has already decided they like you.

Printed menus and table cards

Restaurants running Facebook promotions or events benefit from a table QR. Diners waiting for food are prime candidates to follow a local business page. “Follow us for weekly specials” works better than a generic “Find us on Facebook.”

Flyers and event posters

If you run community events, markets, or pop-ups, a QR on your flyer that links to your Facebook events page means people can follow future events without having to search. See the flyer QR guide for sizing specifics.

Sizing for print

Minimum 20mm × 20mm for a business card. For anything larger — A5 flyer, table card, window cling — aim for 35–50mm. The bigger the QR, the faster and more reliable the scan. Leave a white border (quiet zone) of at least 4 modules around the code. See the full QR code size guide for a reference table.

What if your page username changes?

Changing your Facebook username changes your URL, which breaks every printed QR that points to the old one. Pick a permanent username before printing at scale. If you've already printed materials with the old URL, use a redirect (a short link that forwards to the new URL) as a bridge while you run through existing stock.
